Case study: WTS/M2 Dry Heating Salt Spray Chambers
When running a salt spray chamber, the provision of the heating element(s) to maintain the chamber at a certain temperature is an essential requirement.
There are several approaches to do it, normally immersion heating is used.
Several benefits make the immersion heating been used on more than 70% of salt spray chambers.
- Heat up quickly.
- Easy to use.
- Easy to maintain.
- Lower costs.
But, the main disadvantage of immersion heating is that there is much vapour in the mixed air in the test area. When performing NSS, the vapour is still acceptable. But when performing CASS or AASS, the vapour will increase salt fog’s pH value way higher than desired 2.8-3.2.
Dry heating is developed as another approach to maintain the chamber’s temperature. The main benefit is that this heating does not create any vapour in the test area, which will be able to maintain the salt fog’s pH and concentration values during the whole testing.
The dry heating element is made of titanium which is the best material to resist corrosion, the heater surface is also Teflon coated which enhance its resistance ability to excel.
